Henri Matisse

Henri Matisse was a leading figure in Fauvism and one of the most influential artists of the modern era. I appreciate his use of bright vivid colors in his paintings and the technique he used of pointillism, which is the use of small dots of paint to form an image. Matisse would also reduce flat shapes in his paintings. The painting I chose is one of Mattise, which is called Luxe, Calme, et Volupte (luxury, calm, and desire), I chose this painting because it shows the route he took as an artist stepping away from realism and taking a non-realistic approach with his paintings. In this painting, you can see the white of the canvas, the colors that are used are vibrant and not realistic with the structure and layout of the painting. But this is what I enjoyed so much from this painting and his work that because of his techniques and color choice it brought a complete different vibe to the painting itself.
