John Currin

This is a painting by John Currin called Constance tower. This painting was painted in 2009. I like how the painting looks recent yet has an old fashion touch. The woman looks like a boss and is fashionable. The way she is posed in this picture translates to me, that she know her worth and knows she is powerful.

John Currin

The painting I picked by John Currin, is called Patch and Pearl. I like this painting because it's realistic and also animated at the same time. I like the odd shape of their bodies, that's what stood out to me in this painting. The detail in face and the background is also done really well.

John Currin

John Currin is an American painter whose work reflects the perversity within the cultures passion for perfection and beauty. His painting are known for satirical references to society's ideal image seen through art, media, advertising, and magazines. I chose one of his recent paintings of Jennifer Lawrence on the cover of vogue. I think its interesting how he was chosen to do a painting for the magazines 125th anniversary.

John Currin

John Currin seems to be a very eccentric painter. His paintings portrays a lot sexual aspects and visual imperfections that makes him a unique painter. I liked this oil on canvas painting called Hot Pants that was made in 2010. It is interesting because the tones in this painting make them look alive and in action. You can see what the man see's of himself in the mirror, which is a cooler man with pants that make him look hot. Meanwhile he actually looks nerdy.

John Currin

I chose this painting by John Currin because of the flatness of the woman. Unlike most artist searching for perfection, Currin embraces the  odd aspects of his paintings. They make the painting so interesting. I also like how Currin used such basic colors in this painting, but they all fit perfectly together, creating this funky masterpiece

John Currin

John Currin has some very interesting works that contort the human body. This sticks with that in that the facial features are still strange proportions but what really caught my eye was the fish on the head and the way the wood in the background almost blends in with the skin of the person.

John Currin

John Currin is an American painter who is best known for satirical figurative paintings, which deal with provocative sexual and social themes in a technically skillful manner. Currin's ambitious paintings seduce, repel, surprise, and puzzle. I chose this painting because it is a very puzzling and strange painting.

JOHN CURRIN

I chose this painting mainly because of how weird I find it to be. If you look clearly at the center of her face compared to the left and right side, something about it is uneven. I also find it interesting because it differs from most of his other work. I like that we don't know what she is looking at in the photo and the use of transparency in the painting.

John Currin

John Currin is an American painter who is known for his controversial, sexual and social ideas when it comes to his paintings. John Currin is known for his painting style and the way he paints his human figures. He also goes against the normal societal views of beauty and what people would expect to see. The painting I chose by John Currin is called "Anna" and I chose this paining because it looked odd and it isn't something you expect to see. Her face looks oddly shaped, and the painting is general was a little creepy to me... it is unique and I like it.

Maenads 2015
I chose this painting due to the flesh tones John Currin uses. His perspective of the human body is very interesting, and his products hold a very life like feel to them.

John Currin

I chose this John Currin painting because I thought the perspective was very unique. It still follows his theme of controversy with the naked women however, I feel that it is portrayed in a different way than many of his other works. In respect to the angle and convex appearance. I think that the texture and tone in the painting is very realistic, but it is seen through an unrealistic portioned mirror which I find  really interesting. John Currin is an American painter born in 1962 and his main theme through his paintings is provocative sexual and social scenes. This theme is portrayed in this painting not only because the woman is naked, but because he puts exaggerated emphasis on her bottom. I really like the techniques he uses however, many of these paintings I would not be hanging in my home, but they are interesting to view.

This thanksgiving my family hosted at our house so it was pretty hectic making all of the food! I am not sure if we were really supposed to post this blog or if it was a joke but this is our turkey all cut up! It was delicious as well as the rest of the food. We had egg drop soup, antipasta, mashed potatoes, corn, Italian bread, stuffing, turkey, and homemade pasta. Overall this Thanksgiving was great and everyone was left feeling stuffed!

Final Project

For my final I wanted to paint something about my mom but I think I might just do a landscape painting. This still reminds me of her. And I love the beach. Or I might paint this cute little dog named Kingston.
Because I've he is so cute.

Final project

For my final project, my inspiration, Is Roy Lichtensteins pop art. Specifically his drowning girl/ crying girl pieces. I enjoy the comic book look of these oil paintings. Its un original in an original kind of way.

Final Project

For my final project I would like to create a painting following Diego Rivera's art style. I would like to reflect Mexican and Chicano lifestyles, including a depiction of how farm workers live. The first picture if of Zapata in Agrarian Leader Zapata, a leading figure in the Mexican Revolution, and the the second picture is Crossing the Barranca which I enjoyed the vivid colors.

Final Project

For my final project, I want to do a painting of a landscape of a picture I have from one of my trips. I have not done a landscape in this class yet, and I also really like the pictures I take. I have a couple in mind, but I love pictures with water and the use of light. It gives the picture a relaxing and calming effect that I enjoy. I am excited for how it will turn out!

Final project

I would like to do this sunset with the ocean view because it is very relaxing for me. I just love how peaceful this photo is and it was taken in Puerto Rico by me.

Final Project

For my final project, I have decided to do a still life of a shoe.  I plan on painting my Timberlands.  These are one of my favorite shoes especially for the time of the season that it is now.  The picture that I chose to use is by Vincent Van Gogh.  I would like to use the position the shoes are in, but I am unsure that I will make them look like that.  I would like them to look more realistic than these boots do in this picture.

Final Project

I chose this painting for my finally project because it has a very sentimental meaning to me and my mother. This painting is called "Two Sisters (On the Terrace)" and it is painted by French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. It is an oil on canvas painting that was painted in 1881. The painting is of a woman and her younger sister.

Final

I really like this painting by Andy Warhol.  I am not quite sure what exactly I want to do for my final project but I like this style and contrast of colors.  I was thinking of doing something with shoes, a car or my dog.

Final Project

For my final project I would like to paint a landscape using similar color techniques to those of Vince Van Gogh. His selection of colors create beautiful paintings. Vincent Van Gogh has always been one of my favorite painters.

Final Project

For my final project I chose to paint this picture from when I went to Acadia National Park in Maine. I love being outdoors, so I wanted to do my final project on an image that captures nature. I like how simple of a picture it is, yet it is a great shot of nature.

Independent Project

For my finale project I was really inspired by Vincent van Gogh painting starry night and wanted to interpret that with my home city. I lived in the city for all my life and being away made me miss my city lights and adventures I went on with my friends through the city. I thought this would be a fun creative piece especially because the formatting of the city at night picture is positioned the same as starry night. Also painting the lights glowing off the buildings will create the effects of the patterned wind in starry night.

Final Project

For my final painting I want to do The Starry Night Over The Rhone painted by Vincent Van Gogh. I chose this painting because I love to paint landscapes, and I always admired Van Gogh's pantings. I specifically chose this painting because it shows extensive detail, but is bordering a monochromatic painting.

Final project

My inspiration for my final project is from a painting by Henry Matisse called The Green Stripe also known as the portrait of Madame Matisse. I chose this painting because I want to do a a colorful portrait and I like the painting style in the Green Stripe. I like the background and how the portrait itself is not perfect or neat but still looks realistic.

Final Project

This piece is called "Dutch Interior II" by Joan Miro. For my final project I am going to relate this era of DaDa to one of the masks from the band slipknot. I think that is will be perfect in that Miro like to mix fact and fantasy into his pieces of work as stated "What really counts is to strip the soul naked". This is what the bands goal is when creating these masks in order to provide a sense of what the member feels and represents from the album. I think this idea goes hand and hand with Miro's art and may have even played a role for the creation of these masks.

Final Project

For my final project I am going to be painting a landscape picture that I took when I went to California. I love the colors and feeling this image captures, and I think that it will be an interesting picture to paint. It will also have meaning to it because this was one of my favorite trips.

I became inspired with the painting above, found in the novel, The Annotated Mona Lisa. this painting, Paxton, The Crystal place was painted in 1850 to 1851. I loved the enclosing and looking at this painting gave me a few different ideas of types of buildings i can paint for my final project. i may change my mind last minute and choose another artist that insoired me also, Ruisdael, "windmill at Wijk-bij-Duurst.

Final Project

For my final project I want to paint a still life using acrylics on canvas. I want to do a still life of flowers based off of the Vincent Van Gogh painting "Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers". When I think of still life, I usually think of fruits with dark background but I wanted to go outside the box a little and paint bright colored flowers. I also like how Van Gogh used mostly different tones of yellow and orange throughout the whole painting including the background which really makes the green stand out.

Still Life

For my final project I want to paint a still life painting . I am currently in a photography class this semester and I have enjoyed the world of still life. I shot these photos myself and I would love to see them come to life through art. I am not sure on what picture I will end up painting , but which ever one I decide on doing I want to focus on the reflection of the light and dark. As well as making the subject of my photograph to be unique in it's on way. Not sure how to do that ? Maybe by switching the colors and taking a different approach on it that way.

Final Project

For my final art project, I was inspired by my nurse preceptor at the high school I have clinical rotations at. She is always advocating for random acts of kindness throughout the school and she has students create drawings to display. Since I love working with watercolor, I really liked the paintings of Andrew Wyeth. The way he uses both color and dark colors to paint is wonderful. For my project I wanted to draw a large tree, half is dead and the other half is full and has lots of light. The healthy side will have acts of kindness hanging down from the tree to show how importance kindness is and how it can bring about life. Hopefully, I will be able to successfully pull this project off.

Independent Project

This painting by Paul Cezanne is one of my favorites. Paul Cezanne was a post impressionist painter. His brushstrokes and style make it very easy to recognize his work. I really enjoy painting a still life. The simplicity of it is so fascinating to me because everyday objects or food items can become such a beautiful painting. I wanted to put together my own painting over thanksgiving break by taking a picture of a wine bottle, cheese, and basket of grapes and then painting it with the same type of style Cezanne did. I want to maybe incorporate a table cloth in there but was not too sure what to add.

Georges Seurat

This is a painting by Georges Seurat called "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte". It is his most famous painting and is painted in a style known as pointillist. He created this painting in 1884-86. For my final painting I was thinking of trying to emulate this technique. I think it's a very unique style to look at and would be interesting to attempt on one of my own photos.
