Edward Hopper

I was captivated by the Automat painting by Edward Hopper. What stands out about this painting is that it tells a story and the story that it tells is open to everyones interpretation of the painting.
The painting also comes of as being so realistic and I believe it's due to the detail he puts in. Anyone can just paint a table , but he does it in such a way that it is an eye opener. It also can be his use of dark and light colors to create this sense of reality in the painting. Since he decided to use different shades of black in the background it sets the viewer to get this sense of depression or loneliness which was what he was trying to persuade. After analyzing and observing the details in the painting you can see that he purposely added extra things to the painting to create a theme of loneliness. For instance, he  painted the chair to be pushed in on purpose to create this perception of solitude. Overall, there is so much talent presented in this painting and it's one of my favorite paintings by him.
