Edward Hopper

This painting by Edward Hopper is called New York Movie and it was painted in 1939. I believe that this painting depicts clearly the ideas and his themes of loneliness, isolation, and solitude. I chose this painting because of the use of lighting to emphasize the individual (in this case the woman) who is by herself, isolated from her surroundings. I like how you can almost sense how she's feeling, and it makes the audience wonder what exactly she's thinking about. I like Edward Hopper a lot because you get a certain vibe from his paintings. It was also interesting to me how he used light not dark to emphasize the lonely, pondering woman.
