Judith Beheading Holofernes

I chose Artemisia Gentileschi's portrayal of Judith Beheading Holofernes. I picked this version because I liked her use of oil on canvas to really bring out the details in the people. You can see the emotion on everyone's faces and the strength and power that the women have in this painting. Her use of light and dark was inspired by Caravaggio and it really makes the scene stand out. I also learned from researching that she paints using past experiences as inspiration. In this painting there is a lot of anger and revenge on this man, so you can see that she has went through hard times in her life through the emotions she puts on her characters in her artwork.
