Caravaggio

I have never heard of Michelangelo Caravaggio before watching the video in class. I was amazed by his work and how he was able to just paint what he saw in such detail without drawing anything out before. His use of light and dark really brings out all of the details he paints and it really makes the people stand out in the paintings. I chose "The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew"because of the way Caravaggio portrayed this scene. His use of the dark background really makes the scene pop and makes you look at all of the tiny features he used on the people to make them realistic. Even the emotion on the faces of the people standing around the Saint Matthew are so lifelike so you can really feel what they were feeling at the time.
