Judith Beheading Holofernes.

Out of both images the Artemisia Gentilesch version of Judith Beheading Holofernes was the most significant. Even before doing my research on the artist and the history of this specific painting, I would have never thought that a woman made this painting. For the reason being that around this time there wasn't many women painters. After finding out that a women painted this it just gave me more reason to look into her art work. The art work speaks for itself, there is a woman cutting a man's head off and the reason why she is doing it is to save her purity. Now, she painted this in the 17th century and having sex was an on going issue at the time and was taken very seriously. Her use of dark colors express how angry and strongly she felt about the issue. In my eyes she was trying to sent a message to all the males at her time. Women are not something to just play with!
