Tahitian Mountains

This is a painting called "Tahitian Mountains" by Paul Gauguin who was a post-impressionist painter.  I chose this painting initially because I liked the subject matter and colors. When I looked further into the painting I really liked the use of tones. I like the dark shadow the tree is leaving on the ground as well as the several tones within the trees and mountain. I found it interesting that he was actually in Tahiti in 1891 when he completed this painting. He really captured the serenity of this location. I also admired the use of light in this painting. You can tell what direction the sun is coming from and it really makes you feel like you're there.
