Paul Gauguin

Vision After the Sermon was painted by Paul Gauguin in 1888. I chose this oil painting because of it's use of color and contrast. The red background stood out to me. Researching the painting I found that Gaugin drew some inspiration from modern Japanese woodblock prints. The second thing that drew me to this painting was the scene from the Bible that he was trying to depict and the wings of the angel. The women just stand watching as Jacob is battling the angel.
