Paul Gauguin

Paul Gauguin is a Post Impressionist painter who influenced many. In my research I learned that he tended toward mythological subjects which I found very interesting. The legend states that Hina (the moon) and Fatou (the earth) argued about reviving the earth. The modeled figure is quite disfigured and not realistic. The use of colors stand out to me the most. The painting is almost abstract I feel, especially in the background. I also found it interesting how the entire body of Hina is being shown but we only see Fatou from the chest up.
