In Genevieve Von Petzinger’s TED Talk, she is going through
intense research to decipher what cavemen used communicate with the symbols on the walls. She goes on to say the cave paintings let us see in the past
and we are to determine what they were trying to say. The earliest symbols were meant to mean what it
looked like, like a bird but later advanced to mean other things as time goes
on. This painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat is
called "Irony of the Negro Policeman" made in 1981. I really connected to
this painting because I came from a neighborhood where police are feared
especially if your skin is darker. I chose this because I want this problem to stay
in the past and we make more art from love then irony, pain, or even hate.
