Fauvism
I chose this painting, Fishing Boats Collioure, by Andre Derain because the shapes and colors drew my attention. The colors he used are vaguely realistic except they are intensified. This type of art can best be described as full of vibrancy. The article was interesting to me because I have learned about French artists, such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, in the past, but not about Fauvism or the artists behind this incredible movement. At first glance I did not realize that this was an oil painting, it almost seemed acrylic to me. I also like his use of perspective with the boats in the front large and the mountains in the distant small.
