Andre Derain
I really like this painting, Woman in a Chemise, because I personally like Fauvism. I think it is very interesting how the use of colors is exaggerated and used in a different way than the norm. Fauvism takes a color and changes the realistic value of that color. Noticing the color of the woman's skin and hair makes you think how fauvism defied the rules of academic painting. Andre Derain was one of the founders on Fauvism, which was a name used as an insult originally, along with Henri Matisse. Overall I thought that the article was very interesting to see the origins of Fauvism and why it matters. Although Fauvism was short lived, it definitely was influential on future artists.
