The Painter of Sunflowers (1888) - Paul Gauguin
After watching the film in class about Gauguin's friendship with Van Gogh, this art piece caught my attention the most. Their friendship began in France when Van Gogh wanted to collaborate with Gauguin. However, Gauguin only stayed for two months and they did not get to create their art colony. They both had an argument leading to Van Gogh cutting his ear and after Gauguin left they never saw each other again. Gauguin had a very different style than Van Gogh and they often did not see eye-to-eye. Gauguin was a post impressionist and is now recognized for his experimental use of color and Synthetist style. However he was highly unappreciated in his lifetime and was not recognized until after his death. He was big in the Symbolist movement and even influenced artists like Picasso.
